Power Transformer
People tend to forget how much power technology consumes. Nobody in California forgets this, basically because they can't make enough power to keep the things running all the time.
The gentrification of old areas tends to be looked at as a good thing by most people...nobody really likes run down areas, no matter how nostalgic they get.
The ugly reality of modernization is often obvious though; the increasing power demands of the computer enabled companies moving in are fed by this transformer, located in a back alley right outside one of area's favourite restaurants.
