Sunset, Lava Beds National Monument, August 26, 2006
Desert sunsets are pretty spectacular things. Sure, the coast has water and the way the rays of the sun reflect in it can be pretty stunning. High mountain country always has an interesting steely blue colour to the sky when the sun drops behind the mountains, but not below the horizon.
Deserts are full of these crazy colours that look like they could only exist in the kiln of a crazed pottery maker, and the landscape's dimensions are revealed -- finally free of the harsh glare of direct sun.
