Born To Run Turns 50
August 25th isn't just Jeff Tweedy's Birthday
Music has a lot of Bruce's, but amongst its most notable is Springsteen. As a teenager, during the heyday of the Born in the USA craze I was not a fan mostly, I'm sure, as a sort of reaction to its popularity (though I still think that album is grossly overrated.)
Still, as Americana and singer/songwriters became my taste of choice I grew into Bruce (even if I still have a preference for Cockburn.) For my money, Tunnel of Love is as fine an example of 80s songwriting as any other and I love that song. As it turns out there, yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of Born to Run and damn if that isn't a song that has an impact. I can't listen to it without wanting to swing my leg over a motorcycle, which is a thing I've done a lot of but don't really love doing these days.
It also happens to be Jeff Tweedy's birthday, and he's often told a great story about lying to all of this friends and telling them he wrote the Born to Run album when he was a teenager.
So, I was looking around for a great live performance of Born to Run--one of those ones where 60,000 fans kick in before Bruce even starts--and damned if I didn't find this weird version that includes Tina Fey. Since everything with Tina Fey in it is the best, I we'll go with this.
