Board of..Wait, What?

Honestly, if Mark Carney joined this thing I'd be offended

The Sentient Cheeto has spent the last few days ranting and raving at Davos about his new Board of Peace without even acknowledging the internal logistic inconsistencies of his politics: with ICE continuing to arrest and activate against U.S. citizens, act without warrants and--in only the most recent publicized scandal--seizing children as young as five he now wants to bring peace to the world.

Mark Carney's initial reaction to this was cautious suggesting that Canada would consider joining. Honestly, even before the billion dollar price tag came up, if he had I'd have been protesting in Ottawa. We already have such a thing in the United Nations and yes, it is imperfect. All collaborative systems are imperfect--it's the very nature of collaboration. The solution is to work to improve them, not follow the ravings of a crazy person and start a competitor with a billion dollar grift.

So, the invitation has been revoked. Who cares. I don't think Carney was ever seriously considering joining but it's reassuring to know it isn't going to happen. One look at the list of subservients who are signing on should be enough to clearly identify this as a joke. Qatar? Saudi Arabia? These are not free countries, and they are not leaders. No democracy should aspire to be these countries. By appointing himself leader for life Sentient Cheeto has clearly shown his delusion: this is the act of a dictator and let's not forget he won't live forever.

I suspect that the eventual path forward here is a rejigging of seats at the United States in the wake of what history will eventually regard as a Civil War. If the U.S. dissolves into multiple smaller units, the security council will change. The real problem is that if the U.S. loses it's seat through dissolution it leaves Russia and China with a veto and that's not a great situation. For now, we can only wait and see and, as Canadians especially, hope that the elephant next does doesn't wake up one day and decide to invade.
